Save the Date: ACE End of Summer Event
ACE has accomplished so much this summer, producing research in 10 key policy areas that has been viewed tens of thousands of times. To recognize this amazing work, we are excited to announce the ACE End of Summer Celebration, a Zoom event scheduled for September 10, 2021 from 6pm to 7pm. This event will reflect on our work from this summer with a special focus on the Local Governance Project, which engages students in identifying important policy issues in their communities and potential government response. We look forward to hearing from our fantastic team of Student Fellows, sharing our most important work, and discussing our ambitious plans for the upcoming fall semester, and we hope to see you there!
You can register for the event at this link and receive the Zoom link and Google Calendar event.

Aidan Gnoth
Research Co-ordinator; Co-Leader of Environmental Policy
Dr. Aidan Gnoth is utilizing his background as a public policy advisor for the New Zealand government and his extensive research experience to guide ACE’s efforts to develop in-depth policy briefs.
Aidan is a doctoral researcher with over six years of public policy and research experience and holds a PhD in Peace and Conflict studies from the National Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies (New Zealand). While his primary research interests focus on the humanitarian sector (including international development and peace-building) he has a passion for teaching and finding innovative ways to inform and educate the public on a variety of issues central to ACE’s mission.
Before joining ACE he worked as a researcher, political advisor, lecturer, and disaster relief coordinator, and he is excited about bringing his wide array of skills to our team. In his free time he enjoys skiing, hiking, hang gliding, and (when it’s raining) reading.
Aidan currently co-leads the Environmental Policy Research Team.

Lelia Durand, Case Western Reserve University
Lelia Durand grew up in Potomac, MD and is now a third-year undergraduate at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU), pursuing a double major in international studies and economics and a minor in Chinese. At CWRU, Lelia is involved in Kids Against Hunger, an on-campus organization dedicated to reducing hunger insecurity in the greater Cleveland area, and is a contributing news reporter to the CWRU Observer. In her free time, Lelia enjoys reading, watching TV, and spending time with friends.
Lelia is especially interested in U.S.-China relations and China’s foreign and domestic policy. Her research interests include China’s economic growth, potential pathways to carbon neutrality, and the influence of the Chinese Communist Party. Additionally, she is intrigued by how China’s evolving attitude toward environmental protection may impact America’s position as a global leader.
Lelia joined ACE because she is concerned about the amount of misinformation on key voting issues. As a student fellow, she hopes to spread awareness about ACE’s resources and better inform voters about climate change and the economy.
