Philip Villano is a graduate student at Georgetown University studying education policy. He previously studied at Boston University, earning a B.A. in sociology and psychology. Philip has a keen interest in afterschool care; he studies the function of schools as community centers. His research focuses on the role of parental engagement in shaping educational outcomes and the influence of elementary school counselors on students’ career aspirations.
Alongside ACE, he works with CARE DC, a grassroots educational justice nonprofit, to support public schools in D.C.’s Black and Brown neighborhoods. Philip builds partnerships with local area businesses and is responsible for community-wide communications to advance school leaders’ missions. Additionally, he works with Georgetown’s School of Foreign Service to expose underrepresented high schoolers to the field of international relations.
In his free time, Philip volunteers with a local bicycle repair co-op, shoots and develops film, and reads.
