Gurbir Parmar, New York University

Gurbir is a second-year MPA student at NYU, focusing on public policy and nonprofit management. She graduated from the University of Calgary with a BComm in Business Analytics and worked in the corporate sector, but her personal experiences with the education system and long-standing interest in politics inspired me to pursue public service. Gurbir hopes to work in education policy to create more equitable systems and opportunities for all students. This past summer, she had the opportunity to work in municipal government, focusing on civic engagement, particularly with immigrant communities and youth. Gurbir is actively involved in initiatives that create safe spaces for students to discuss political engagement and foster meaningful change. She is originally from the beautiful Rockies in Alberta, Canada, which means she loves spending time outdoors. Aside from academics, Gurbir enjoys playing basketball, baking, and spending time with loved ones. She is passionate about connecting with people and learning from the knowledge they have to offer, which motivates her academic and community work.
