Corinne Lafont, Swarthmore College

Corinne Lafont is a recent Swarthmore College graduate with Phi Beta Kappa and Honors distinction. There, she reported on election reform, interviewed award-winning faculty, and produced a self-sponsored thesis on James Joyce's Ulysses. Though Lafont received her degree in English Literature, she fulfilled the credit requirement for an honors minor in Political Science. Her academic papers focused on desecularization and democratic erosion in India, and the effects of the neoliberal transition in Latin America. Currently, Lafont is fascinated by how/if artificial intelligence is influencing elections and/or eroding democracy. Outside academia, she published over sixty articles as an editor for The Swarthmore Phoenix. Additionally, she worked with author Moriel Rothman-Zecher on a Directed Creative Writing Project, which won The Swarthmore Prize in Creative Nonfiction. Her writing has appeared in Small Craft Warnings, The Review, Orpheus Review, Waxing and Waning, and elsewhere. Currently, she volunteers with the Grace Institute and Phi Beta Kappa New York as an Assistant Director of Technology. In her spare time, she is an avid reader, practicing artist, crossword enthusiast, distance runner, movie fanatic, and, secretly, a former band kid.
