Mia Rubiera is a rising senior at Denison University pursuing a double major in Political Science and Anthropology. Her academic work centers on civic engagement, media literacy, and the role of community-based initiatives in strengthening democratic participation. During her time at Denison, she participated in the Academy for Civic Education and Democracy through the Ronald Reagan Institute in Washington, D.C., where she met with leaders and engaged in civic initiatives. That same summer, she served as a Community Engagement Extern with the Student Conservation Association, supporting efforts to increase public involvement in environmental stewardship.
Mia has also contributed to research on youth civic participation through her work with the Ramos Research Institute, where she progressed from researcher to fellow. There, she developed a practical playbook designed to help college students engage more effectively in civic life. Her current research focuses on media literacy and its impact on democratic engagement, which will be presented alongside her cohort at the International Media Literacy Symposium this June.
Outside of her academic and professional pursuits, Mia enjoys spending time outdoors, reading, and connecting with friends and family.
