Stephanie Peterson, Purdue University

Stephanie Peterson holds a B.A. in Political Science from Purdue University Northwest. Crediting her mother for her appreciation of the natural environment from an early age, Stephanie’s interest lies in how the facets of political systems can be used as tools, rather than barriers, for enacting policies that address the economic, physical, and social impacts of environmental degradation. During her undergraduate career, Stephanie authored the article, “Security at Too High an Environmental Cost: The European Union’s Energy Independence Strategy and its Environmental Implications for Air Quality in Poland and Hungary,” which appeared in the 14th volume of the Journal of Purdue Undergraduate Research. Her senior capstone project, likewise, took a more domestic focus and explored the impacts of partisanship and polarization on U.S. climate policies. Besides her studies, Stephanie has interned for Seaside Sustainability, collaborating on outreach efforts and market research to generate financial and community support for Seaside’s initiatives. Stephanie is also set to join Ballotpedia’s Volunteer Fellows Program this summer, where she will gather data on candidates running in local elections to ensure voters know the people on their ballots. Outside of her academic and professional endeavors, Stephanie enjoys reading thick books and planning family movie nights.
