Zyon Afanou (he/him) is a rising sophomore at Alabama A&M University who is studying Urban Planning. Zyon believes that developments in technology can inform his research and aspirations to serving his community in a manner that is ethical and equitable to the public if used in moderation. He took an interest in technology policy due to rampant misinformation and confusion pertaining to recent developments such as AI circulating his community, and wanted to accurately inform people in a simple, non-partisan way.
Zyon aims to give back to underserved communities, demonstrating his dedication in his involvement with LGBTQ and African-American advocacy organizations around Alabama. At his university, he has worked with his housing office to enact inclusivity in housing assignments for transgender students. In his free time, he likes to cut hair, skateboard, and play bass guitar.
