Sunoo Lee is a rising senior at Emory University. As an international studies major, he has a longstanding interest in foreign countries, cultures, and politics, particularly regarding Europe and Asia. As a Korean American, Sunoo has a strong interest in South Korean politics and topics related to the Korean peninsula. Eurasia is a particular area of interest to Sunoo given the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and Russia is a country that he has great knowledge of with regards to many aspects such as politics, culture, and media. During his undergraduate years, he has taken coursework that has not only enhanced his understanding of the world but has also given him important research skills. His coursework includes writing papers about the electoral decline of social democratic parties across Europe, a phenomenon known as “pasokification”, and withdrawals from international organizations such as Brexit that reflect his interest in European politics. Sunoo’s interests continue outside of the classroom as well. During his free time, he enjoys reading and learning more about foreign regions and political topics that aren’t well-known to the general American public such as democratic backsliding in Poland and Hungary or the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
