Ilma’shallah Moinuddin Chishti Syed is a recent graduate from UC Davis with a B.A. in International Relations, with a minor in Middle East South Asian studies, and concentration in ethnic conflict and global migration. Ilma is deeply invested in understanding the historical developments which underpin conflict and violence within neo and post-colonial nations. Her recent focus was in developing diagnostic tools to accurately gauge patterns of conflict, and  best practices on how to address them. Ilma is also passionate about addressing resource insecurity and uplifting historically excluded communities. In her capacity as a director of legislative affairs in the Student Senate for California Community Colleges, she helped oversee the passage of AB 1995 (to give homeless students access to facility showers) and AB 214 (to reduce the requirements for CalFresh and other food stamp-related programs for full-time students). Ilma has volunteered with Mariposas Sin Fronteras to help LGBTQI+ asylum seekers on the border find food and stable shelter. She was also most recently interning in World Relief this past year to help resettle refugees from Afghanistan in Sacramento after the Taliban retook control of the Afghani government
