Modinat Showemimo is a student completing a dual degree program studying Global Policy Studies and Public Health. She is a self-motivated and progress-driven employee and student. She has experience in advocacy for disadvantaged populations, such as children, families, immigrants, and asylum seekers. She can offer her extensive background in social welfare, mental health, curriculum implementation, public speaking, studying abroad, and working with diverse populations. She has developed and executed strategies in both educational and workplace settings that she believes will continue to provide positive contributions to her work. Her work, educational, and travel experiences have allowed her to strengthen her abilities in communication, mental health services, and supporting diverse and disadvantaged populations.
She understands that health can be affected by the social factors and physical conditions of the environment in which people are born, live, learn, play, work, and age. She understands that a person’s environment can play an extremely large role in their access to available healthcare services as it can both expose certain populations to more health risks, as well as limit the types of available resources and education available to these populations. Her education in the public health field will provide her with relevant knowledge to better understand the various health needs of different populations, and advocate for policies and programs that can help improve population health at a global level. She is very interested in international development – prolonging and improving quality of life and providing aid on a global level. She aspires to widen her horizons by learning about the role of policy in health advocacy, as well as conducting and evaluating research in identifying and addressing determinants of health around the world.
