Luis is an undergraduate student at the University of California San Diego majoring in Urban Studies and Planning. Having taken architecture classes at community college, he found an interest in design that has influenced his studies at UCSD. Therefore, he has done several academic projects on urban design that address tactical urbanism, social diversity, and decolonization. He believes that speculation around urban design and architecture generates new ways of improving cities that are more inclusive and sustainable. Being born and raised in Mexico, he is inherently interested in exploring solutions from Latin American cities to social issues like climate change, homelessness, and social inequality. Additionally, he finds the San Diego-Tijuana metropolitan region as a place of great inspiration while doing his undergraduate studies, as it hosts many cultures that go beyond politics and economy. In his free time, he enjoys watching sci-fi movies and reading non-fiction books.
