Jonathan is a second-year student at Colgate University pursuing a B.A. in International Relations and Asian Studies (China Concentration). Originally from Bethel, Connecticut, his interest in politics was nurtured in part by Boys Nation, a one-week civic engagement program hosted in Washington, D.C. and sponsored by the American Legion. While attending, he was able to connect with students from each of the fifty states (except Hawaii) and further his understanding of the legislative process by hearing and submitting bills and resolutions to the mock Senate. His resolution addressed maritime disputes in the South China Sea – a topic that would eventually guide him to choose the aforementioned major(s) and area of concentration. Now, Jonathan is hoping to use the skills and lessons he’s learned to tackle some of the world’s most pressing issues regarding Sino-American relations. He believes that it is important for everyone to be global citizens; that is, to try to expand their horizons beyond that of their home country and see contentious topics through different lenses. He is hoping to use his time at ACE, specifically as a member of the foreign policy team, to do just that: expand his own horizons while helping others do the same. Outside of this field of study, Jonathan is a tour guide, a novice ballroom dancer, and an avid gym-goer.
