Aya (she/her) is a transnational civil society advocate focusing on upscaling global human security standards with a focus on women’s rights and climate justice. She is a senior at St. Olaf College majoring in Political Science with minors in International Relations and Middle Eastern Studies. A native Arabic and French speaker, Aya researched women’s guardianship laws in the wider MENA region during her time at Human Rights Watch. She was part of the international team led by UNHCR to propose policy recommendations for alternative migrant detention in Libya.  During her undergraduate studies Aya studied and researched human security over 4 continents. She is an alumna of the Cambridge Security Initiative at Magdalene College, the London School of Economics, and the University of Oslo. Aya is a United World College Scholar alumna and a 2018 Global Citizen Year Fellow. She speaks 6 languages fluently.
