Kiwakibt Melaku is a rising third-year undergraduate student at the University of Virginia pursuing a double major in Computer Science and Foreign Affairs, as well as minoring in science and technology policy. Her academic interests lie at the intersection of technology and global policy, with a particular focus on cybersecurity and ethical technology development. On grounds, Kiwakibt is involved in several organizations, she is currently the treasurer for the National Society of Black Engineers, co-communications chair of Color Stack, and a member of the Public Service Pathway program in their Diplomacy & Security pathway. Kiwakibt currently works in the Carrigan Lab as an undergraduate researcher working on problems related to social computing. Her experiences reflect her commitment to advancing an inclusive, globally informed way of approaching technology policy. Outside of her academic pursuits, in her free time, she can be found meeting up with her friends, working on small craft projects, or refining her culinary skills.
