Taína Monegro, New York University

Taína Monegro is a rising second year at NYU Wagner earning her Master’s degree in Urban Planning. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from Vanderbilt University where she double-majored in Architecture and the Built Environment, and Classical and Mediterranean Studies. She graduated from Vanderbilt with high honors after successfully completing and defending her senior honors thesis on the political and socioeconomic significance of gladiatorial combat in the late Roman Republic and early Empire. During her first year at Wagner she completed a fellowship with Jonathan Rose Companies focused on affordable housing finance and basic financial underwriting. She has also completed numerous case studies and data stories concerning various urban planning issues ranging from environmental racism to displacement in lower income neighborhoods and neighborhoods of color in NYC. She is very passionate about the intersection of social justice and urban planning and how planning can be used to promote equity and accessibility in urban landscapes. In her free time she enjoys watching football (Go Bears!), watching movies and reading. Her favorite movies are Star Wars: Attack of the Clones and Mad Max: Fury Road.
