Lauren is a Politics and Economics student at Whitman College who is passionate about public policy, legislation, and advocacy. As a first-generation working-class college student from rural Washington, she is especially interested in using policy to advocate for individuals and communities whose voices are often overlooked in the policymaking process. At Whitman, Lauren serves as the Associated Students of Whitman College Student Development Chair, where she represents student interests and leads initiatives focused on student organizations, accessibility, and campus engagement. She is also an Opinion Editor for The Whitman Wire, writing and editing pieces on political, social, and socioeconomic issues. Through the Independent Colleges of Washington, Lauren serves as an ICW Fellow, advocating for the protection and expansion of Washington State financial aid and gaining experience in legislative advocacy, testimony, and engagement with state lawmakers. She also serves as a Legislative Liaison with Every Voice Coalition, a student-led nonprofit focused on eliminating sexual violence on college campuses through the Every Voice Bill. She monitors Washington legislation and supports legislative outreach and policy advocacy. Lauren’s academic and professional interests include economic policy, immigration policy, public health, and legislation. She aspires to work in Washington, D.C., where she hopes to contribute to legislation and public policy that creates meaningful change. Outside of school and work, she enjoys running, reading, and weightlifting.
