Tricia Newman, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign

Tricia is an undergraduate student at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Sustainability and Environmental Science. Tricia is from the Chicago suburbs and previously served as a commissioner on her community’s Environment and Natural Resources Commission. In this role, she assisted with developing a plan to restore environmental habitat and develop green nature corridors. Her experience as a commissioner heightened her interest in the intersection between sustainable innovation and public policy. Additionally, living in the Chicago area has given Tricia insight into what sustainability means for urban centers. Recently, Tricia completed research on the topic of environmental NGOs. Her research focused on establishing a compendium of successful practices that coalitions utilize to create positive environmental outcomes. Her previous experiences have expanded her interest into circular economics and creating models that support both human and natural advancement. While at school, Tricia is also minoring in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and serves as leader in the Society of Women in Public Affairs. Outside of her academic goals Tricia enjoys camping, traveling, and spending time with friends.
