Karina Schwartz, University of California-Berkeley

Karina is an undergraduate student at UC Berkeley, where she majors in Legal Studies. Much of her work focuses on the intersection between law and the energy transition. Having interned in the U.S. House of Representatives, she gained firsthand experience with the politics standing in the way of a green energy future, as well as a substantial overview of the current pressing environmental debates. Currently, her work focuses on the impacts of data centers and locating where the gaps in federal environmental regulations lie. She hopes to bring environmental values to fruition through policy research. Underpinning her work in environmental research is her love of nature and upbringing in Southern California, where the mountains meet the ocean. She views working as an environmental advocate as an act of gratitude for the hills that give her land to hike, trees that provide shade to read under, grass as a pillow after a long day, and the ocean that offers a space to be weightless. Outside of her work, Karina enjoys spending weekends at her neighborhood park, meeting and conversing with those in her community and those passing through.
