Emma is a sophomore at Syracuse University studying Political Science and Citizenship and Civic Engagement at the Maxwell School. She is from Framingham, Massachusetts, and is interested in education policy, particularly issues such as academic tracking, school choice, funding disparities, and debates over school curriculum.
As someone who attended public school kindergarten through twelfth grade and is now at a private university, Emma has seen firsthand how differences in funding, resources, and institutional priorities shape students’ experiences. This contrast has deepened her interest in education policy, particularly regarding questions of equity and access.
Emma is a Service Engagement intern at Syracuse Hillel, where she helps create service projects and encourages other students to get involved in social action. Through this role, she works with peers to build meaningful opportunities for community engagement. She is also an opinion columnist for The Daily Orange, Syracuse University’s student run newspaper, where she writes about campus life, politics, and social issues.
In her free time, Emma enjoys reading, spending time with friends, and exploring new places around Syracuse and beyond. She values learning both inside and outside the classroom and is interested in staying engaged with her community while continuing to develop her academic and personal interests.
